Happy Birthday, Etsyhookers!!!
December 1st marks EH Teams birthday, today we are three! May we all have a wonderful year.
It seems we have a few members who have become lost in the move when Ning closed its doors to free groups. For those lost sheep, you can now find us back on Etsy, thanks to the new teams format!

I saw Winter peeking around the corner...
Just last week, I saw winter peeking around the corner, I could even smell the cool crisp air that he brings...but something must have put him off, because we are still enjoying warm autumn weather.
But I know he's coming, bringing with him short grey days, and snowy, cold nights, and how better to spend those cold nights than curled up under a warm afghan?
Check out these afghans from some of our members, just click anywhere on the picture, you will be taken to the page on Etsy where you can click on the individual listings:

Etsyhookers Team Challenge #10
It has been a while since our last challenge, but what with having to find a new home, and the subsequent move to that new home, the challenge was delayed.
For those who have forgotten, Michele ( tangledknots.etsy.com ) was the winner of Challenge #9 and had chosen what looks to be a fun theme!
The theme: Keeping Fit. Crocheted items that you can use/wear while doing your favourite physical activity, things like lightweight walker's backpacks, water bottle holders, ipod cozies, etc.
Our first challenge in our new home has gotten off to a slow start, but some of our team members have risen to the challenge and come up with their creations for this event. Deadline for members to enter is Friday, September 17th, please see details in the discussion on our private FB page if you are a member interested in entering.
The voting poll will open by 12 pm (noon) EST on Monday, September 20, and will close on Monday September 27th at 12 pm (noon) EST.

It's Time, It's Time!!
It's here at last! Our 'open' time for new members!
Through the month of September, Etsyhookers is open to new members.
Requirements:
1. You must have an Etsy shop
2. You must be 18 or older.
3. Your shop must be at least 50% crochet (crochet-related) items, with a minimum of 7 crochet (crochet-related) items.
4. After approval, please be sure to tag your items with 'Etsyhookers team'--this tag applies ONLY to crochet/crochet related items. Please do not tag other crafts that contain no crochet with our team tag. We are trying to promote crochet, not painting, ceramics, sewing, etc.
*Please note, crochet related does not mean generic craft supplies that *could possibly* be used in crochet, but very rarely would be, like foam shapes, wood cut-outs, etc.
Examples of what is crochet-related: patterns, yarns, buttons, hooks...
To join, this is now a 2-3-step process since we've moved to Facebook!
First, apply to join our private group page. This is mandatory for members, since this is the only way I can contact everyone in the group with important special notices, announcements, etc.
Second, you *must* send me a message after you've applied to join through my Etsy shop, letting me know the name you applied to join under; your shop name will of course show in the conversation. Otherwise, I'll have no idea who you are and will be unable to
approve you.
Third, you are more than welcome to 'like' our FB business page. Once I've approved you for our private page, if I notice you've 'liked' our business page, I will make you an admin so you will be able to post pictures and links! If you do join our business page, please read FAQ's about photos before posting your listing pics.
Now is a great time to join! We've just started a new team challenge, and the deadline to enter is September 17th--rules are posted in our private group on FB.
Requests to join after September 30th will be deleted, as there is no waiting list for our next open date, which will be in early 2011.

It`s a Good Time for Ice Cream!
Yes, our new move is complete! We can be found at Facebook -- members, be sure to also join our private group so you can be sure to receive updates and important info, as well as participate in our private chat. The link can be found on our fanpage at the left. Members have been adding photos and links to current listings, all arranged in albums by category to make shopping easier!
With summer in full spring, it's a good time for ice cream. After spotting a nice strawberry ice cream shade of pink in my cotton yarn, I whipped up a neapolitan 'flavoured' dish/wash cloth, and this inspired a neapolitan ice cream collection with goodies from various members:

Happy Canada Day/Fourth of July!
First, we have started our 'move' to Facebook, so far a small handful of members have moved over, looking forward to having everyone in our new home! If you are not a member of Etsyhookers, but would like to keep up to date on new listings, specials, and just what everyone is up to, feel free to join us on facebook by clicking 'like' on our team page! If you are a member of Etsyhookers already, our 'member room' is up and running, this one is private so you will need to apply to join. If your shop name is not viewable in your profile, I may need to contact you to confirm that you are one of us.

It's so nice for neighbours to have holidays so close together. Along the US/Canada border, I'm sure there's several cities celebrating jointly. I know for several years, Windsor has celebrated with a fireworks display and celebration to mark both holidays.
In honour of Canada Day and the 4th of July, I've picked out some red, white and blue items from our Etsyhookers Team! Click on an item to check it out.

Moving, even online, isn't easy
After Ning's recent decision to do away with their free service, many groups are now looking for new homes, and Etsyhookers Team is one of them. Now, it would have been fine if their fee was reasonable. For $2.95, you could get a basic plan...but then, you have a cap of 150 members. Our team currently has over 200. The next step up, which would be pretty much what we have now, would be $19.95. A month. So, from nothing to twenty bucks. Talk about your price hikes.
So, we are currently checking out other 'homes' for our group to migrate to. Until we decide where we will settle down, memberships will be closed to new members, so if you are interested in joining our team, please be sure to check back here, where info on our permanent home and our next open date will be posted.

Etsyhookers Team, Challenge #9 in full swing!
As winner of our last challenge, lilycobweb chose the theme for our new challenge. Since it is March, with St. Patrick's Day located right in the middle, and lilycobweb is Irish, she chose an Irish theme.
This theme includes not only St. Patrick's Day, but colour, stitch technique, or anything Ireland is known for.
The deadline for Etsyhookers team members to enter is Tuesday, March 30th at 12:00 am (midnight) EST, with voting poll to open by 12 pm (noon) EST on Wednesday, March 31. Voting will close on Thursday, April 8th at 12 pm (noon) EST.The entries are coming in, and it looks like it will be another 'challenge' when it comes to picking your favourite to vote for!

March is....
March is still a little bit winter, yet a little bit spring...
March is debating in the morning: winter coat? light jacket?
March is bits of green peeking up through mud and bits of snow.
March is...time for our new Etsyhookers Challenge!
Lilycobweb, as the winner of our last challenge, chose the theme for this one. Because St. Patrick's Day is in March, and Lilycobweb is Irish, she chose to have an Irish theme this round. We are getting a bit of a late start to have new listings specifically for St. Patrick's Day, but just close your eyes, and what comes to mind when you think...Ireland? I don't know if I'm just strange, but one of the first things that came to my mind was banshees!
If that doesn't work, I did post a couple of links to info about Ireland in our Team Challenge Rules.
Already, we have a few entries, once a few more start coming in, I'll be posting pics of the entries. Not a fellow hooker? You can still join in the fun! Once the deadline passes for the members to enter (March 30), we will post a poll for everyone to vote. You do not need to be a member, do not even need to have a blog on Blogger, and no need to sign up for anything, just check out the entries, click your favourite, and you're done!

And the Winner Is
First, I would like to say thank you to all Hookers for their wonderful entries, everyone did such a great job on their projects, all the entries made for such a 'challenging' challenge to vote on!
Next, a thank you to everyone--hooker or not--who voted for their favourite and helped make this such a fun challenge.
That said, the winner of our Etsyhookers Challenge #8 is Lilycobweb with her Misty Morning Lace Scarf Haiti Disaster Relief Scarf. Proceeds from the sale of this item are going toward Haiti Disaster Relief. Click on the picture to see the Etsy listing.

I'm looking forward to Challenge #9 and hope it's just as much (or more!) fun!

The Challenge is On!
Etsyhookers Team Challenge #8 has begun!
For this challenge, Hookers are asked to create something using variegated yarn, with the theme chosen by debs1967, winner of our last challenge. For this theme, variegated is also including ombres.
It seems Hookers are rising to the challenge, with entries starting to roll in only a few days after the challenge began. Take a look at all the entries below, you can click on each image to see a larger picture in the listing in the seller's shop.
Voting will begin February 10th before noon, with 8 days to vote for your favourite. Everyone is invited to vote, you do not have to be a fellow Etsyhooker, or even an Etsy seller and there is no need to sign in anywhere to do so!
